Is It Possible To Jailbreak the mighty PS4?

By now, you might have already heard about the PS4 Jailbreak hype. Let me burst your bubble before moving on. No. It has not yet been jail-broken. But it will be very, very soon.

It has truly been one of the most anxiously awaited feat of the year. And it almost came to be in the past few weeks. First, we saw websites claiming certain groups HAVE actually jail-broken it. (Hint: LIZARD) But unfortunately, these were all rumors, spread to get more views on the specific sites. Yeap. You got trolled.

However, there was some truth in them too. You see, all this excitement was not fake. There were hackers working hard to jail-break the PS4 and had gotten real close to it too.

Of all the people who could've potentially come forward with a successful jail-break, it was a hacker who calls himself CTurt, who seemed to have actually done it when he tweeted:

"PS4 kernel exploit finally working! Thanks to everyone involved!" on the 6th of December.

And then 6 days later, we saw him tweeting this:

"Can successfully dump RAM from other processes (like SceShellUI) using ptrace! Next step: patching RAM… "

And then the moment all of us had been waiting for:

"Just broke WebKit process out of a FreeBSD jail (cred->cr_prison = &prison0). Guess you could say the PS4 is now officially 'jailbroken' "

Thank you, CTurt! Though I did not understand one word of the processes he went through, i believe it is the outcome that you and I are interested in. You must be thinking, "He did it! Yay!" .... Well... not yet.

Although he did say he was successful, he could only achieve so much. You see, he still faced problems in running actual ps4 titles. Even though He did, run a custom Linux distro (to hack it) but he was only able to play some classics. It was no sooner that he decided to end the happy moments of his overly-excited followers by finally tweeting that he has dropped his work. He is no longer working on the PS4 jail-break. Sad, isn't it. No one knows why. (Maybe he was bribed by SONY o.O) But whatever the reason may be, he did leave behind all the work he had done up till now. And that's great because this means that now, someone else who is capable, might use the brilliant work of CTurt, and jail-break the Play Station 4.

In addition to this, another group called 'Fail0verflow' which is responsible for  hacks of the Wii and PS3 has also been working against the PS4.
The notorious hacking group Fail0verflow has demonstrated what appears to be the world's first low-level hack of the PlayStation 4. They were able to run linux on it and play Pokemon-Playstation 1 version on it.The video Demonstrates  ;

As of now... we still await the mighty PS4 to be properly Jail-broken at last. It has been hard for the PS4 fans out there, but I believe this series of events is nearing its epilogue. SONY ought to get ready because we should expect the Jail-break to be out in no time.

Some say he’s half man half fish, others say he’s more of a seventy/thirty split. Either way he’s a fishy bastard.

    1. Yes obviously.. If the console gets hacked there would be Illegal copies of games everywhere in a blink of an eye. and that includes FIFA. :)
