Nothing can match the magical feeling you get when you step into the worlds of GTA, Witcher, Fallout and other open world games. The game folds out in front of you. You can go anywhere. You can do anything. It's your game. It's your world.

However, not all of them are created equal. We've witnessed entire cities, entire kingdoms being bought to life in staggering detail. The following games are the best from this genre. You want to spend 200 hours indulged in a world different from reality. Well, here you go.

10. Batman: Arkham Knight

Back in 2009, Batman: Arkham Asylum released by Rocksteady Studios took the markets by storm. It captured the imagination of all bat-fans in the world. However, there was room for improvement.

With Batman: Arkham Knight, we have an even better Gotham to explore, the BatMobile to drive and more gadgets to enjoy. It lets you do what you want and hands over tools after tools to assist you.

The heroes, villains and the world in general has been subjected to subtle detail. Gotham itself is full of interesting things to do. Surely, hardcore fans would be pushing themselves to find every Riddler's trophy, solve every puzzle and sub-plot, win every race.

Not only is Batman: Arkham Knight one of the best open-world games of all time but is also the truest imitation of the Dark Knight's world in the video game industry.

9. Dragon Age : Inquisition

You wanted to be the boss? You are the boss. Yes, it feels really really good to be the boss. You wanted a private army? You have got a private army. Yes, it feels really really good to have an ass-whooping private army.

Dragon Age : Inquisition gives you complete power to shape the game world, Thedas, as you will. At your war council you've got three strategic advisers; Diplomatic, Military and Espionage. Which one will reap the most benefit when dealing with a rebellion? Who do you send to neutralize a threat? This, my friend, is up to you.

The diplomatic aspect of the game makes the monster-killing a second fiddle to it. However, it doesn't make it any less impressive. A mixture of turn-based and real-time combat is arguably the best of the series. The flashy visuals provide another dose of enjoyment to this amazing title.

8. Saints Row IV

You. Are. POTUS.

The President of the United States.

And you can blow stuff up. A hell lot of it.

Saints Row IV gives you the control of the POTUS who used to be the leader of a street gang, Saints, which is now one of the most powerful organizations of the world. On top of that, you've got super powers. Oh. Then there are the aliens which you fight off to save the damn world. If you are looking for parody-packed, awesomely hilarious experience, this is the game for you.

7. Fallout 4

You did not expect a post-apocalyptic  game here, did you? A lot of them, a hell lotta of them turn out shit. This is different. It's grey. It's gloomy. It's bleak. Still, it is absolutely awesome. The open-world is full of horrors to discover, monsters to kill and people to interact with (maybe not so many of these).

Fallout 4 is a game that can disrupt sleeping patterns and break inseparable couples. So if you want a girl another guy's got, trust me, gift him a steam card and you've got a chance because this game is bloody awesome. It maybe slightly buggy and the graphics are out-dated but the sheer depth and enjoyment it offers fulfill the needs of all that play it.

6. Assassin's Creed : Black Flag

It's a pirate's life for me! "Windy weather, boys. Stormy weather, boys. When she blows we're all together, boys..."

The shanties alone will guarantee this title from Ubisoft a place in any open-world list. I could cruise on the waves and listen to these all day and all night. The game doesn't end there.

Awesome mini-games? Check. Brilliant ship combat? Check. Treasure hunts? Check. Amazing story line? Check.

The game, even after finishing the main story line is an amazing one. Sailing leisurely on the blue seas, sinking a vessel every now and then, looting trade cogs and running away when the big boys come. This is without doubt one of the best games Ubisoft has come up with in recent times.

5. Far Cry 4

Another Ubisoft production, this is one of the best games in the market. Its only fault? It's not exactly Far Cry 4 but rather Far Cry 3.5. Luckily, the third edition was superb as well.

Situated in the Himalayas, the fictional country of Kyrat can leave viewers breathless with its scenic beauty. The wild life is amazing as long as you don't run into any honey badgers. Oh, you can ride elephants as well.

The story line honestly felt like a chore. I personally never felt emotionally attached to any characters other than the villain, Pagan himself.

Still, the experience was breath-taking and absolutely stupendous. This is one of the few games I often re-visit when I'm bored.

4. Grand Theft Auto V

No open-world list is ever complete without at least one game from the GTA series featuring in it. All three controllable characters have there own, very unique lifestyles. Micheal is a bored millionare, Franklin rose from the streets to a posh penthouse and finally, Trevor. He is a maniac. He is a drug addict. He is awesome.

Going on a rampage in a tank, stealing a military jet from a top security military base, going on a crime spree, this is what GTA is all about.

The mini-games are plentiful and good enough to be stand-offs. The story is awesome as usual with the heists playing a major part.

GTA Online also fulfills the dream. It offers a stunning multi-player sandbox we've all been waiting for.

3. Skyrim

It's big. It's bold. It's badass. It's a modder's heaven. It's Skyrim.

I've put in 132 hours in it and I still end up with quests which I've never attempted before. Skyrim is massive. A side-quest you started as you still had fifteen minutes before you sleep may end up turning into a full-fledged story that can easily be passed as a spin-off.

Skyrim mods make the game even better with time. They not only are responsible for more content but also better graphics.

If you're looking for a game to immerse yourself in completely for a loooong time, Skyrim it is.

PS : There are dragons too!

2. Red Dead Redemption

If there is one regret I harbor due to opting to be a PC gamer rather than a console peasant, it was because of this Rockstar classic.

Situated in the old Wild West, Red Dead Redemption offers what few others games have ever achieved. The environmental detail, the beautiful landscape, the weather, the wildlife and the ambient sounds provide an experience rarely seen before.

The game also gives players a choice they have been begging for. The ability to be a hero or the villain. John Marston, former outlaw has the choice to redeem himself. Ahh, but we're all evil bastards, us gaming lot.

There's a very good reason why this game peaked the charts at its release and scored a 5/5 at MetaCritic. This is a game you must not miss out at.

1. Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

In-arguably the best game of this year and the years of the past, Witcher 3: Wild Hunt tops the list without a doubt. There is no such thing as a perfect game, but Witcher 3 sure comes damn close to it.

What sets The Witcher 3 apart from most of the competition is its keen sense of humanity, which is calculated to be every bit as gripping as an HBO drama.

It is more than just an incredible game that successfully brings lush visuals, tactical combat and a captivating world untainted with the issues that games of similar nature have when building such huge open spaces. It is also a respectful closure for Geralt, the series and its fans.

Some say he’s half man half fish, others say he’s more of a seventy/thirty split. Either way he’s a fishy bastard.
